Client: Manufacture of Steel Wire
Location: Cantabria – Spain
Execution period: 2001
This manufacturer produces wire by cold deformation, by wire drawing and stamping. When determining its mechanical properties, it is necessary to use a tensile test.
The surface hardness reached by the material is extremely high, which can cause difficulties when clamping the samples during tensile tests. Its high surface hardness makes the specimen can slide in the jaws during the test, showing erroneous values of elongation at break as result.
Solution provided by IBERTEST
For the customer’s machine, IBERTEST supplied a set of tensile gripping heads with lateral clamping system and hydraulic closing and special design clamping jaws, which enables to easily exceed the material initial hardness and carry out the tensile test correctly.
