Extensometry

Extensometry

An extensometer is a transducer used for measuring the deformation of samples during materials testing.
Its use is vital when the measurement and control of sample deformation requires maximum accuracy.
An extensometer is defined by several parameters: Base length (Lo), measurement range, type of actuation with the sample (clip-on, contactless, with independent support), measurement principle of the transducer (strain gage, LVDT, magnetostrictive, potentiometric, encoder, video, etc), direction of deformation (axial or transversal), sense of deformation (increasing or decreasing length), level of automation (manual, semi automatic, fully automatic) and ambient conditiong (temperature and humidity).
